Baker Boosts Morale of Troops In Battle

Talk about a way to give thanks…

It all started with a simple email two years ago.  Germain Broussard (aka the Cookie Lady) sent an email asking for permission to send her homemade cookies to troops aboard the U.S.S. Shreveport.  She received clearence, as they would say in the military, and a few weeks later the ship was bombarded with cookies, lots of cookies - 1,800 to be exact.

Since then Broussard has baked more than 50,000 cookies in a program she likes to call “Troop Treats”, for members of all branches of the US military.  The amazing part is she runs this program as a mostly one-woman show in the evenings, after working her full-time day job.

According to the original article the Cookie Lady usually bakes about 300 cookies per weeknight and over 1,000 per weekend.  All I can say is wow what a power bill.  But she is seriously an inspiration, to put so much of her time and money into an effort to show so many of our troops the support they deserve.  The appreciation and morale boost has been tremendous.  In addition to her cookie baking, Broussard also has a letter writing campaign, a program to send out care packages to the troops, as well as several other support efforts.  If you want to learn more about the programs, how to get involved, or if you’re interested in making a donation visit the website.
