Beginning Baker - Christmas List
For the past couple of years, I’ve asked for manly gadgets for Christmas… Thermapen thermometers, welding gloves, you get the picture. I have all the stuff I use now for outdoor cooking, though, including a good sized trailered smoker. So what do I ask for this year?
Baking supplies!!!
I get some of my stuff from a local store that also offers some online buying, Cooks’ Wares. But for stuff that’s harder to find and specific to bakers, I like the Baker’s Catalogue, from King Arthur Flour.
So here’s my list, or part of it (without the items that tend to show the Peter Pan syndrom in full force!):
- A couche for making baguettes.
- A dough doubler for having a better indication of when dough is, uh, doubled.
- A covered baker to see if it really makes crusts better.
- A lame to slash the bread before baking.
- And a DVD on artisan break making. Now if only they’d make it into an Xbox 360 game!
To grease the wheels for Santa, I’m bribing him with cookies made from Jaay’s post on the Best Ever Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Curt, Instead of a couche, I use a baguette pan and it turns out VERY nice baguettes. You can see them on my blog. If you want a photo of my baguette pan let me know and I’ll send you one.
