A Tip For Your Heart

gingerbread_hearttempus5.jpgIf you ever want to bake a cake or other dessert in the shape of a heart but don’t have a heart pan, you can always use a round pan and a square pan.  The length of the square pan should be the same as the diameter of the round pan.  Once everything is baked, divide the cake in the round pan in half and then attach to two sides of the square cake (preferably two sides sharing a corner).

The attempt at creating a Necco Sweetheart cake in the picture below uses this tip.  I used a 8″ by 8″ square pan and a 8″ round pan.  Also, if I was to try this again, I would use fondant to cover it and do the lettering.  Frosting is OK but fondant can achieve the dry, sandy feel and look of the candy.  For this I used buttercream, which I tinted.  The letters were created using a stencil I drew and then I used candy coating to trace them out.  Let them set in the fridge and place them on the cake.

My girlfriend and I made up Easter baskets for our families and these cupcakes were a part of them. This yellow cake is a butter cake or creamed cake, so named because making the cake starts with creaming the butter and sugar. This adds air, increasing the volume and acts as the main leavener. […]
