Operation Baking Gals
If you’ve been giving your oven the cold shoulder all summer and cozying up to the ice-cream maker instead, well . . . you’re not alone. But if there’s one thing worth getting the kitchen all hotted up for, it’s this event, Operation Baking GALS.
Here’s the scoop:
Who: Susan of She’s Becoming DoughMessTic and five other friendly food-blogger hosts
When: August 23 - 30, 2008 (Round 2; info is up on the site now)
What: Operation Baking GALS - A chance for bakers to show some love and appreciation for our servicemen and servicewomen by sending home-baked goodies!
Why: Because we can, and because we care!
How: Click through to Susan’s site, then click on the Operation Baking GALS badge in her sidebar (just look for Rosie). That will take you to the info site. Everything you’ll need to know is right there.
I can’t imagine how many hours Susan has put into getting her project off the ground, let alone into its second round, and she’s done a great job of assembling information about it, so I won’t repeat it all here. Instead, visit her sites, drop her an e-mail, and sign up to join one of the six teams of Baking GALS for this really, really worthwhile event.
To me, one of the best things about baking is the way it can be used to communicate love, comfort, support, friendship, and simple human kindness. I’m excited to take part in this event! Please consider joining me and the other Baking GALS in sending oven love to our soldiers. Something tells me they could use a little love right about now.

On behalf of our servicemen/women I just want to say Thank-you! My husband is currently depolyed to Iraq and I know how much he and his unit apperciate this kind of gesture. As much as they love the food, they really love knowing that they are not forgotten! Thanks for caring about our military!
