Nutella Two Tone Cookies

Are you done with your Christmas cookies yet? I hope your answer is no. Because I’m not either. Although I have baked some cookies earlier to send to a special friend, and test baked a few batches of various recipes to see if they were good, I haven’t really made any progress on the […]

Favorite Chocolate Biscotti Recipe

Despite the many baking failures I had over the past, I am extremely blessed in the biscotti department. In fact I find my favorite biscotti recipe the first time I attempted it. Although I blogged about these biscottis a couple of times in the past, I failed to include the recipe. Firstly because I am […]

Time for Brioche

We haveĀ been back from Atlanta for more than a week now and I think it’s high time to revisit my resolution I set earlier on. Like baking bread when the weather is cooler.

I am not much of a bread baker. For one, my bread usually doesn’t rise as high as it’s supposed to be. Maybe […]

One Chiffon Cake, Two Ways.

As much as I love my trustworthy chocolate cake recipes, I decided it’s time to try my hands at making chiffon cake last week. But which recipe should I entrust my first chiffon cake experiment? In the end, I decided to go with Espresso Chiffon Cake with Caramel Glaze from Carole Broom’s Essential […]

A Very Rough Guide for Making Scones

Ever since I learned how to make scones last year, I always keep an extra batch of scone dough in the freezer. It’s something handy to have, especially for Saturday morning when we don’t feel like eating pancakes (our weekend breakfast ritual). All we have to do, is simply to heat the oven […]

Opposite Attraction

Remembering important dates has never been my forte. OCT used to tease me that his birthday is sometime between mid-November to December because that’s when he received his birthday presents and cards. Most of the time, it would be more than one month past the actual date.
After we were married, the situation improved tremendously. But […]

What dessert are you serving on 4th of July?

What would you turn up in a 4th of July party if you are asked to bring a dessert? Not that I have such a request to fulfil, but I thought it would be fun to put myself in one’s shoe. You know, in case we decide to throw a last minute party and need […]

Mandy Pan

I discovered my passion for baking when I quitted my job two years ago to join my husband in St Louis. Being a newly married woman with plenty of time at my disposal, I started to play around with flour, butter, egg, sugar and chocolate in our tiny kitchen. I am known among friends to be a passionate eater. But a baker? That is a side of me that friends have not seen. In order to keep in touch with friends and record my cooking and baking adventures, I started a blog, < a href = "http://novice-baker.blogspot.com">Fresh From The Oven</a> almost two years ago. My first baking adventure started with a box of brownie mix, a mixing bowl, a wooden spoon, two eggs and half a cup of oil. Eventhough I have since tried many recipes from scratch, I will never forget the joy when my first batch of brownie came out from the oven and how the aroma filled our little apartment.
